FAQs

  • What is Vaginal Rejuvenation?

Vaginal rejuvenation is a procedure that corrects issues with the vaginal area due to reduced estrogen production after childbirth and menopause. Some common issues that vaginal rejuvenation addresses include vaginal dryness or burning and urinary incontinence.

The treatment Dr. Epstein uses is MonaLisa Touch, an innovative, nonsurgical procedure that stimulates collagen production in the vagina using a CO2 laser. The collagen produced by the laser prevents and corrects drops in estrogen in the vaginal tissue. It reduces vaginal dryness and burning while increasing vaginal elasticity and treating mild urinary incontinence.

  • How Does a Gynecologist Perform Vaginal Rejuvenation Using MonaLisa Touch?

Dr. Epstein performs the procedure in an outpatient setting. She uses a specialized laser on the vaginal walls and possibly on the outside of the vagina if requested.

A MonaLisa Touch procedure lasts about five minutes and creates micro-lesions that encourage the production of new collagen. The procedure is safe and usually requires at least three treatments given 40-60 days apart.

You probably won't experience much pain during the procedure when you receive it internally. Using the laser on the outside of the vagina does cause a bit of discomfort, which Dr. Epstein uses a numbing agent to combat.

  • What Type of Results Can You Expect From Vaginal Rejuvenation Using MonaLisa Touch?

You should recover within days of having MonaLisa Touch. You might experience mild discomfort for the first three to seven days after the procedure.

You may need an over-the-counter pain reliever on an as-needed basis while you’re recovering. It’s normal to have temporary swelling or slight redness immediately following the procedure.

Although you see results after your first procedure, the tissue regeneration process lasts for several weeks after the treatment.

After MonaLisa Touch, you can expect an improvement in your sex life because your vagina becomes more nourished and hydrated. The vaginal walls thicken and feel tighter and more toned. The laser helps restore your vagina’s protective barrier, so you’re less at risk of infection.

  • What Can I Expect After a MonaLisa Vaginal Rejuvenation Procedure?

Most people can resume their normal activities one to three days after the procedure, but you may need to refrain from weightlifting, hot baths, and physical exercise for a specific period, based on Dr. Epstein’s recommendations.
